Tu B'Shvat Party - 2002
As we planned our Tu B’Shvat Party, 2002, sirens wailed in the background, racing towards the rising tally of Jews most recently shot by a terrorist who opened fired on dozens of innocent civilians in downtown Jerusalem.
We made a consciously defiant decision to go forward with the children’s activity. And after seeing the joy on the faces of 125 children who came out, even through the rain, we knew we made the right choice. Besides having games, prizes, music, and treats, the children planted a hundred little starter flowers in our KIDS FOR KIDS courtyard garden.
It is important, even in these moments of deep tension, when the unexpected is suspected, and our country’s very existence is at risk, that we maintain a sense of hope, optimism, and continuity in the future. That is why K4K opted for the traditional planting of flowers, as a sign of how we view our children…with life, growth, and the trust that there will be a tomorrow in which to nurture them.
