MIRACLES, Risin' On The Horizon
KIDS, always the optimists, called their fundraising project MIRACLES, Risin’ On The Horizon.
For a contribution of $5 and up, donors wrote their own prayers on special forms which were tied to bio-degradable helium balloons to ascend to the skies on December 9, 2001. The date corresponding to the first night of the Jewish holiday, Chanukah, celebrated to commemorate the open miracles leading to the Israelite’s victory over their Greek invaders.
The balloons were released in Jerusalem, while areas in America were scheduled at that same moment in Denver, Florida, New York, and New Jersey.
