Tu B'Shvat 2001
Fifty Gush Katif children joined with the children of the Old City to celebrate Tu B’shvat, February 7, 2001 . During the two days of activities sponsored by KIDS FOR KIDS, the children from Kafar Dorom, Netzavim, and many other settlements of Gush Katif, enjoyed a well needed reprieve from the constant threat and regular shooting by terrorists.
Among the guests were the four children of Miri Amitai who was killed on the morning of November 20, 2000, when a roadside bomb exploded alongside a school bus carrying children from Kfar Darom. Lazur Amitai addressed the gathering and shared his inspiring story of strength and faith.
The Tu B’shvat Party, held at the Sephardic Educational Center, featured music, skits, an audience participation play, and a score of Tu B’shvut fruits enjoyed with the Old City community. Dinner followed.
“We wanted to have a better picture in our minds and hearts when we pray for the safety of our people, so we invited the kids from Gush Katif,” said Chytzi Tevens, 14, member of the K4K Youth Advisory Board and one of the organizers of the event. “We were very excited about meeting our new friends.”
