The word 'Eytan' comes from the hebrew word 'strength.' These clubs aim to build up inner strength inside these young kids (six to thirteen) who attend these weekly sessions.
KIDS FOR KIDS EYTAN CLUB program reaches out to youth who have:
- Been in a terrorist attak.
- A family member injured in terrorist attacks.
- Psychologically wounded by the loss of family, friends, classmates and neighbors.
- Witnesses to violent and traumatic events.
- Residents of high impacted and/or continually threatened and underserved communities.
How do these clubs work ?
There is no direct therapy involved with the Eytan program. However, because all the participants have gone through similar traumatic experiences, the children feel secure in this K4K environment. The madrichim (counselors) who guide and facilitate the fun, are also there as strong, loving role models who can be approached as sympathetic listeners.
The program runs for ten months from the Fall until the end of the academic year. Each Eytan club has a curriculum designed specifically for the group's interests. Examples of activities include art projects, games, sports, films, day trips and other forms of entertaiment.
Even though the youngsters are experiencing the results of trauma, they feel relaxed and perceive Eytan as a safe Haven. We would like to increase the number of Eytan groups in order to help the many children throughout the country who need this emotional boost and support.
2007 Eytan Clubs
- Gilo-A Jerusalem neighbourhood, borders on an Arab villiage called Beit Jala, where gun shots and mortar shells were aimed at Israeli citizens in 2000. The results of the early trauma are still evident. Gilo Eytan has 20 participants ages 9-12.
- Jerusalem area- Two Jerusalem groups meet weekly in the KIDS FOR KIDS library in the Old City to do art activities.
- Sheked- From the Arab town of Jenin, live gunfire is shot into these vulnerable Northern Shomron communities daily.
In order to keep the children occupied and off dangerous roads between the neighborhoods, KIDS FOR KIDS has sponsored an educational, entertaining, interactive English language Eytan Club.
We hope that Eytan will strengthen these children, and equip them with the hope and courage they need to continue their path of life.
